Admission guide

Planned or emergency, this is how it works.

In short

What happens when I am admitted?

You go to the admission counter with identification, previous records and any scheme or mediclaim card. The card is verified before admission rather than at discharge, and the charge for your room or care category is given to you before you are admitted, not afterwards.

  • Card verified before admission
  • Charges given at the admission counter before admission
  • Bring records and identification
  • Admission desk: 0261 2510050
Planned

A planned admission

  1. See the consultant first. Planned admissions are arranged through the consultant you have seen in the outpatient department, between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.
  2. Bring your documents. Photo identification, any scheme or insurance card, and earlier prescriptions, scans and reports.
  3. Choose the room category. The counter records the category you choose. Rates are published and the same for every patient in that category.
  4. Scheme check before admission. If you hold a card, it is verified before admission rather than at discharge.
Emergency

An emergency admission

  1. Come straight in. Accident and emergency is open 24 hours and does not require an appointment or a referral.
  2. Assessment first, paperwork second. The patient is seen before admission formalities. Do not delay the journey to find documents.
  3. Free ambulance if you need it. 24 hours, within 15 kilometres of Ved Road, at no charge. Call 0261 2510050.
  4. Documents when you can. Bring identification and any scheme card as soon as someone is able to.
Checklist

What to bring

  • Photo identification for the patient
  • Scheme card: MA Yojana, PM-JAY or ESIC
  • Mediclaim policy and TPA card
  • Earlier prescriptions, discharge summaries and reports
  • Current medicines in their original packaging
  • A family member who can stay with the patient
Leaving

At discharge

You should be told what is owed before discharge rather than after it. If a scheme or policy is settling part of the bill, the counter will tell you which part. The published rate is the rate, and there is no negotiation at the counter.

If anything on the bill does not look right, ask for it to be checked against the current rate card at the counter.

Five steps

Admission, in order

  1. You are told you need admission. By the treating doctor, in the OPD or through emergency.
  2. Go to the admission counter. With identification, previous records, and any scheme or mediclaim card.
  3. Your card is verified. Before admission rather than at discharge, so you know what is covered going in.
  4. You are told the charge. For your room or care category, before you are admitted. The same rate applies to every patient in that category.
  5. You are shown to the ward. Ask the ward staff about visiting times, meals and who may stay.
