Patient rights and responsibilities
What you are entitled to here, and what the hospital asks of you.
In short
What am I entitled to ask about my treatment?
You are entitled to an explanation of what is wrong and what is proposed in language you understand, the charge for your care category before admission, access to your records, a second opinion, privacy, and the right to refuse treatment without it ending your care.
- Explanation in plain language
- Charges given at the admission counter before admission
- Access to your records
- Second opinion, privacy, right to refuse
What you are entitled to
These follow from the founder's instruction that the hospital serve without discrimination, and from the trust's decision to publish its rates.
- Treatment without discrimination of caste, religion or economic status
- To be told what your treatment involves, in language you understand
- To know what it will cost before you agree to it
- The published rate, the same as every other patient in your category
- To ask questions, and to ask again
- To refuse treatment, and to seek another opinion
- Privacy and confidentiality of your medical information
- To raise a concern and have it heard
What the hospital asks of you
- Give accurate information about your health and history
- Tell the doctor what medicines you are already taking
- Follow the treatment plan you have agreed to
- Treat staff and other patients with respect
- Respect visiting arrangements and ward quiet
- Settle what is owed at the published rate
If something goes wrong
Ask to speak to the person in charge of the department first, since most things are resolved there. If that does not settle it, call 0261 2510050 and ask for the administration, or email prannathhospital2@gmail.com.
If a charge does not look right, say so and ask for it to be checked against the current rate card at the counter.
Formal charter
Many hospitals publish a formal patient charter and a named grievance officer.
What this page needs from the hospital
- The hospital's own patient charter, if one exists
- Named grievance officer and their contact details
- Expected response time for a complaint
- Any regulator the patient can escalate to
Until that arrives this page stays deliberately short rather than carrying content nobody can stand behind. If you need any of it now, call 0261 2510050 and ask.
If something is wrong
- Speak to the department first. Ask for the person in charge. Most things are resolved there and faster than anywhere else.
- If that does not settle it, call the administration. 0261 2510050, and ask for the administration rather than reception.
- Put it in writing if you prefer. prannathhospital2@gmail.com.
- For a charge you think is wrong. Ask at the counter for it to be checked against the current rate card. The same rate applies to every patient in a given category.
What you are entitled to ask for
- An explanation
- What is wrong, what is proposed, and what it involves, in language you understand
- The cost, before admission
- The charge for your room or care category, told to you before you are admitted
- Your records
- Ask at the department, or the administration on 0261 2510050
- A second opinion
- Nobody here will object to you seeking one
- Privacy
- Your condition discussed with you, not within earshot of the queue
- To refuse
- Treatment is yours to decline, and declining does not end your care here
Asking is not rudeness
A patient who asks what something costs or why it is needed is doing exactly what a trust hospital should expect. It is not a complaint.
