The emergency department on Ved Road runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and takes walk-ins. Intensive care and the coronary intensive care unit sit alongside it on the same floor, so a patient who arrives through emergency and needs critical care does not have to be moved to another building.
What this department treats
Emergency and critical care covers anything that cannot wait for an outpatient appointment. The team assesses on arrival and admits straight to intensive care where that is what the patient needs.
- Road traffic and workplace accidents
- Chest pain and suspected heart attack
- Breathlessness and respiratory distress
- Stroke and sudden neurological change
- Poisoning and snake bite
- Burns and major wounds
- Severe infection and high fever
- Post-operative patients needing observation

Intensive Coronary Care

Anaesthesiology

What happens when you arrive
- Start at the general OPD. Between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm, pay the consultation charge and you will be seen. That charge includes the medicine prescribed for that day. In an emergency, go straight to accident and emergency instead.
- Bring what you have. Photo identification, any scheme or insurance card, and earlier prescriptions, scans or reports.
- Scheme check before admission. If you hold a Mukhyamantri Amrutum or Ayushman Bharat card, the counter verifies it before admission rather than at discharge.
- Rates are published. The same rate applies to every patient in a category. There is no negotiation at the counter and nothing to be gained by asking.
